New Competition
A few months ago, at the JISC Away Day for JISC Executive staff, we organised a session on photography and invited members of the Executive to contribute a series of images. The images could follow a theme if the contributor wanted but there was no compulsion to do this.
The pictures ranged from African tribes to northern landscapes and were in both colour and black and white. They were displayed and everyone at the session was invited to put their comments below each image and vote for the picture they most liked and the set they most liked. At the coffee break this was extended to everyone who was at the Away Day. The session proved to be immensely popular and we subsequently put the photos up online, which promoted similar interest amongst both people from JISC services and projects. The question was whether we could organise something similar again that would be open to a broader audience of all those working within and for JISC, or receiving a JISC grant.
Well, after chatting through with a few people in the Executive we are in a position to launch a new Photography Competition. JISC Communications and JISC Digital Media have already promised to provide us with a series of prizes.
So, a few rules:
- The competition is open to all staff who are employed by JISC, JISC Services or on a JISC Project.
- There are three themes; each entrant can enter one photograph per theme.
- Each photograph must be submitted on a creative commons licence. Additionally, submitting an image, means you will also grant JISC permission to use the image in its publications (this competition is also a way for JISC to identify images for use in its media).
- The images must have been taken since 1st July 2009.
- The Closing Date for this competition is Midnight (GMT), 30th November 2009.
- The images must not be of an adult nature or offensive.
Submitting an entry
We will be using Flickr to administer the competition. Flickr allows you to create a free account, however, if you would rather not then you can email me (l.phipps@jisc.ac.uk) for alternative arrangements.
Once you have chosen your image, email l.phipps@jisc.ac.uk and you will then be invited to submit it to the JISC Involve 2009 group.
The Themes
The three themes are below, remember, there is a maximum of 1 entry per them.
On the road again…
This is an open theme where the only criteria is that the image must have been taken on the way to or back from any JISC event in the UK (please make a note of the event details when you submit the image).
Engaged
This must show how people are engaged in any area of JISC activity
